Sygil is a thinking and learning tool that explores questions through four perspectives. We believe in transparency about how your data is handled — the short version is: we collect very little and share nothing.
Data We Collect
Questions you ask: When you submit a question, only the text of your message and a previous_response_id (for conversation continuity) are sent to our server. No personal data, metadata, or device identifiers are included.
No storage: Our server processes requests in real time and does not store conversations in any database. The previous_response_id is a stateless context token used by OpenAI's API — our server does not maintain any record of it.
No account required: Sygil does not require sign-up, login, or any personal information.
No tracking: We do not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking pixels.
Local Data Storage (iOS App)
The iOS app stores your conversations, debates, journal entries, bookmarks, and progress data locally on your device.
This data never leaves your device except when questions are sent to our server for AI response generation.
You can delete all local data at any time from Settings.
The app uses UserDefaults to store preferences such as Kids Mode and onboarding state.
Referral System
Sygil includes a referral feature that lets you share the app with others to earn bonus question credits.
No personal data collected: The referral system does not collect names, emails, contact lists, or any personal information from you or the people you share with.
Local tracking only: Share counts and bonus credits are tracked entirely on your device using local storage.
On-device rewards: Bonus asks earned through referrals are granted locally on your device. No server-side tracking or accounts are involved.
Sharing: Referral codes are shared via the native iOS share sheet. We have no access to your contacts or share recipients.
Data Deletion
You can delete all locally stored data at any time from the Settings screen within the app.
This permanently removes all conversations, journal entries, bookmarks, streaks, referral data, and preferences from your device.
Since we do not store your data on our server, there is no server-side data to delete.
Local Data Storage (Web App)
The web app stores conversations only in your browser's memory during your session.
When you close the browser tab, conversations are not persisted.
Third-Party Services
Sygil uses OpenAI's API to generate responses. Your questions are sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI's data usage policies apply to that processing. We do not send any identifying information — only the text of your question.
Sygil allows you to share AI-generated answers via the native iOS share sheet. We do not track, store, or have access to what you share or with whom.
App Store Reviews
Sygil may prompt you to rate the app using Apple's built-in review API (SKStoreReviewController). No data is collected by us through this process — it is handled entirely by Apple.
Subscriptions (iOS App)
Sygil Premium is available as an auto-renewable subscription in two plans: $5.99/month (Monthly) and $44.99/year (Yearly).
Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
The subscription automatically renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
All billing and payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store any payment information.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third parties beyond what is described above (OpenAI for response generation).
Children's Privacy
Sygil includes a Kids Mode designed for learners aged 8-12. Kids Mode provides simpler language and age-appropriate content. No additional data is collected in Kids Mode. The app is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted here with an updated date.
